NYNYS Mission December 11-18, 1996

Manhattan Day.  I went with [Elder – An old companion] and his current companion (I forgot his name), and a member, Adriana from Woodside.  We went to breakfast then Central Park.  Some man was feeding pigeons, so we did also.  They would fly up on your hand.  Then we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw paintings by Picasso and Dali, as well as some Egyptian stuff.

We were walking down the street […] about to go into a store (RiteAid) when a lady and girl were exiting and I felt I should go and talk to them. But I continued into the store. I felt it again, so I ran out (without my companion) and chased them down. Just as they went into a store, so I waited. When they came out they were the bomb.

I had been out and around Manhattan all day.  When I went back to meet my comp in Time Square an Elder told me a girl, a nanny from Connecticut was looking for me and she was just there.  She was now up the street so I ran up the street.  I went up the street I saw a little crowd of girls and Lisa, Matt Johnson’s girlfriend was there.   She remembered I was in New York and looked for me.  Of all the days we ended up in Manhattan on the same day. What a blessing.  She was even at my farewell. Wow.

Well, yesterday was Manhattan Day, wow. It’s a cool place. Big. Busy. I went and saw Le Misérables. It was killer and went to the top of the Empire State Building. The night before we spent in Flushing. After our trip to Manhattan, I went to Flushing to pick up our stuff. I got there and waited for my companion to call. They [him and his buddy] were going to have a baptism I thought at 7:30.

The English branch emptied the water out of the font and the font is BIG. It’s in the new Richmond Hills chapel. It’s a beautiful church. So we were filling up buckets in the bathroom sinks and kitchen to dump in it to fill it up faster. Wow, we got about one foot of water in it and baptized him. He’s over 80 years old. Pantciano. He’s a cold old man. He had to lie down on the bottom of the font. It was a good experience and he seemed to like it. So did all the branch members who helped.
