NYNYS Mission May 26-31, 1997

May 26, 1997

[My Companion] is the new AP, and my new comp will be [Elder].  [He was told] he’s being put with the hightest bapting Spanish ZL in the mission (me).  Who would ever have thought?  And for him to listen and learn.  We heard gunshots tonight (3) [followed by] tires pealling out. Our neighbors saw it.  It was a fight and one person had a bat, then the other shot him.  Everyone went out to see.  There were like 50 people walking up the street to see if there was blood.  Nope.

Well, I went on splits with [Elder] today.  We’ve got lots of referrals.  It was funny, all of them lived in my area.  I’ve also tried to get [Elder] to wait on his people utill the first of the month.  New York is Now the Safest Big City in America. […]

May 28, 1997, Wednesday

Well, we had transferred today.  Ralphy came and took us.  He’s the bomb. He lives in Bushwick.  We went to the activity, and [Elder] had 2 baptisms, then we had a problem.  [Elder] wanted to have a baptism at 10 PM after I had just had a long talk with President about slowing things down. […]  We are now at 43.

Wow, I don’t know who we are going to baptize.  We looked up all of our referrals and nothing.  Dang.  We taught someone on their stoop.

May 30, 1997, Friday

We had Zone Meeting which was good.  Then went to Cindy’s to visit. It was nice. She fed us.  Jasmin’s mom said she would like to get baptized.  Nice.  We’re still stumped.  I need one last baptism.  We wanted to get Carmen, but decided it was too late. So we rescheduled. It for tomorrow.

May 31, 1997, Saturday

Carmen got baptized.

10/100 [44]

Wow, my first 10 baptisms month in this area.  And I hit 100. […] I thought it would be impossible a while back. […]  I can’t believe it; so many of my converts have callings now.  David and Mariea Florres are Young Men’s and Young Women’s Presidents. David Valencia, Elders Quoroum Secretary.  Toni and Mariana, Branch Missionaries.  Yanira, Primary Teacher, and Cindy, Activities Coordinator.
