NYNYS Mission April 28 – May 6, 1997

More mission tales from East New York in the New York New York South mission. I feel like this post should be titled “Shout at the Devil!” Isn’t that a Motley Crue song?

April 28, 1997, Monday

Transfer calls came today. I’m staying with [Elder]. […] [Elder] is going with [Elder] […] everyone is hungry. We all want to baptize.

April 29, 1997, Tuesday

I didn’t remember. These things happen sometimes. You know.

April 30, 1997, Wednesday

Well, last day of the month and transfers, wow. We got the rings and they did 2 of them wrong. Ouch. I was scared of that and felt so bad. Also, doing that sucked. But the AP’s trying to get us to baptize again. We tried, but it just didn’t happen. […]

May 1, 1997, Thursday

Well, a new month. Today sucked. Aleve’s Mom won’t let [us] talk to him. I fear he is lost.

May 2, 1997, Friday

Well, we had a very good zone meeting. The zone is pumped to go for 62. Wow, that is a lot of people. We had good talks and we learned a lot. The AP’s came and said a few words like, “Go for it!”

May 3, 1997, Saturday

First of all, on Friday after Zone Meeting, we had splits. I went with Brownsville. It was way cool. [Elder] was a little discouraged. I helped them out a lot. We had lots of success. It was cool. We found some really really prepared people. It was nice. On Saturday I went on splits with [Elder] […]. Oh well, we found 1 or 2 people while we walked in the rain. […] good things always come of rain.

May 4, 1997, Saturday

Well, we bombed out in Spanish. Alex got baptized, it was nice. And Isabel brought 2 friends and they want to get baptized. But, couldn’t. They’re both not married. English had 5. They saved us. That was nice of them. Cindy’s kids got blessed. Samantha and Chy-anne those two little girls love me so much. Samatha is 3 and I have to walk laps with her […] So her mom can go to class and learn something. She’s so cool. (Cindy) you would think she’d be a very ghetto baptism [because of where she lives] but she walks to church each Sunday with her 3 kids. She is very faithful. Wow, she fed us tonight [we saw] the Jazz beat the Lakers.

[…] I fearlessed some flaca chulas today […] Girls don’t dress like that back home. Oh, we tried to have a baptism with [Elder] but [she] ditched us. She’s Cuban. We were going to push her but had a change of heart.

[Elder] gave us a big problem Saturday night, and so the AP’s came to talk to him. At church, he had no Spirit. Just a dark bitter hora. About him. It contrasted with all the others who bore their testimonies all the others were full of light. After [the AP’s talked to him he] opened his eyes he had a change of heart and his countenance changed. It was like night and day. Oooh. when I saw him I saw a future leader of the mission. A different man.

MISSION CONFERENCE

Wow, Flushing Style. […] We looked good at 37. We just need to take care of all our [stuff]. We got back and ate at a converts of [Elder] and [Elder]. A cute Puerto Rican, then we talked to Satan or at Satan Natasha. She’s proud of the fact her name backward says Satan (Natas). She showed us her body piercings [nothing bad] and tattoos.. Her back had a tribal anarchy sign and a Satanic red pentagram. [She had] 2 tinny studs, other tattoos, naval piercing, nose, the works. She thought we were cool because we weren’t intimidated by her. She would continually yell, “Chains!” “Leather!” “Whips!” “Spikes!” over and over at us[…]. She’s a weird duck. The first time I saw her, I looked at her from across the road and she yelled, “What the hell are you looking at!” Then she gave us the devil sigh.
