Every year, my daughter and I watch It’s a Wonderful Life early on Christmas morning. Honestly, I’ll take every bit of father-daughter bonding I can get. She has mentioned looking forward to this many times over the last month.
Over the last few days, I saw story after story about Amazon editing the version of the movie playing on Prime. They apparently left out the portion where George has a vision of his life had he not been born. The full movie is a masterpiece. Though it does not mirror my full religious beliefs, it focuses on God, angels, and the good of mankind.
We ended up watching a version of the movie (the full movie) that we own.
At the point where the Savings and Loan had lost the money and George had the weight of the world upon his shoulders, my kids asked me why George was breaking everything. We had a brief discussion about how sometimes moms and dads have a lot they are responsible for. Sometimes it is overwhelming. As I talked to them about it, I felt emotional and started to choke up.
But when I have been overwhelmed by life’s burdens, they have been lifted when I have taken time to pray. God has the power to make our burdens light if we draw close to Him.
