Joseph Smith – Live Up To Your Privilege
I’d like to reflect on this quote. Joseph Smith shared it nearly 200 years ago, yet today the word “privilege” often carries a negative connotation. Throughout the church’s history, the world hasn’t viewed Latter-day Saints as privileged. Many who joined the church faced persecution; during Smith’s time, they were driven out of several states. This hardly fits the typical definition of privilege. Yet, they truly were and are privileged. They chose to open their hearts and minds to embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ and all of the blessings of exaltation.
The plan of salvation is not a secret. Any member of the church would be happy to explain it. While I may struggle to articulate my thoughts perfectly, it seems that some non-members take offense at the idea that Latter-day Saints believe they can achieve something greater being saved. These blessings are indeed a privilege, yet they are accessible to anyone willing to believe and follow. Non-members too, could receive these blessings and privileges if they choose to embrace the gospel. Those who truly believe, who are willing to sacrifice the world, and who commit to the straight and narrow path are few.
They are the ones who are truly privileged.
