My son was always raving about how awesome his seminary teacher was. Recently that awesome Seminary teacher wasn’t able to teach him anymore. She had been called to be the General Young Woman’s President of the church, Emily Belle Freeman.
She was nice enough to invite him and the rest of her seminary class to tour her office today. So, we drove up to the church office building and parked in the underground parking garage, then made our way over to meet the group of kids attending the tour. We must have had about a dozen kids and probably an equal number of parents on the tour.
After everyone arrived we headed from the parking garage to the president’s room on the first floor. The president’s room is a room with portraits. There is a portrait of every Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary president in the history of the church. On my way to this room, I was walking through the lobby of the Relief Society building, when to my shock, my friend Martin Baron was standing in the lobby. I was sure ecstatic to see him.
Honestly, I don’t think there are people much better than him. He is such an amazing person. I was introduced to Martin by my friend Kim almost 30 years ago. He is an incredibly talented man, the epitome of class and professionalism. It’s funny we would be friends because I am the complete opposite, but he has never judged me for that. What can I say, I’m pretty rough around the edges. Seeing Martin made the trip worth it. I asked him what he was up to. He is now the Managing Editor of the Liahona Magazine. That doesn’t surprise me one bit. I hope he never reads this blog because he would probably not be impressed with my grammar.
Anyhow, we toured the building, the offices, and the conference rooms. There was a lovely view of the Salt Lake Temple and the temple grounds from her office. We talked about some amazing facts about the building, furniture, and art. The art was amazing. It was almost like walking through a museum.
After spending a little time with President Emily Belle Freeman today, I learned she is an incredibly lovely person. She is genuinely bright, happy, and pleasant to be around. Not that she or anyone else needs my opinion, I’m just saying I was very impressed with her. It’s no wonder Isaiah absolutely loves her. I also had the pleasure to spend some time with her father and sister. I think it runs in their family.
