NYNYS Mission November 9-15, 1996

November 9, 1996
Well, we had a baptismal meeting in Staten Island and it sucked. We got nothing. Oh well. We got to take the ferry back to Manhatten and we got some nice photos. Oh, I forgot about Friday. I thought I felt the spirit on going up toward downtown Brooklyn. We got there and we went and walked through the Jehovah’s Witness headquarters looking for the big watchtower trying to take a photo but we couldn’t find it. But, we found the Brooklyn Bridge so like good missionaries, we went sightseeing. We only walked ½ way over the bridge and we got some nice photos of the bridge and city. We walked our butts off. I’m glad we got something out of it.

We couldn’t get anyone to go to church with us. Oh well, we went and taught our two only gators and gave them the 10 commandments. The woman wouldn’t look us in the eyes or talk. […] I told them their hearts were hard. They were like “You came in and just expect us to get baptized in one day?” after reading a scripture they realized. One day was enough to get baptized […].

And my Jehova witness friend Ivette called me. She is going to come to church on Wednesday. […]

It was a pretty good day. I enjoyed it. We taught a few discussions and tried our best. We just got to get some of these people baptized. We taught a lady who said she was committing adultery. But then she told us she’s getting married on Friday. A big smile went across my face.

Well, honestly, I can’t remember a lot of what happened. Oh ya, but we did find a family of 5. After we had worked hard all day and they were way cool. We said you want to get baptized and all the kids jumped up, “Yes! Yes! Yes!”

Well, we ended up in Downtown Brooklyn again and got some nice pics of the Jehovah’s Witness watch tower. I liked walking in between the big buildings. […]

We had a baptismal meeting today and it didn’t go as good as we had hoped. […]

We had a cool Zone Meeting. And after we went on splits with my District Leader. Then went and saw our family we are poaching out of the District Leaders area. It’s all cool. He won’t find out for a little while I hope. They are getting ready for Sunday. […] This family is so cool. My companion fearlessed them at our last Street Meeting. The night one we saw them Wednesday Night and then today. A mother Maria has two daughters Toni and Mariana and two sons’ Fransisco and Manuel. They are from the Dominican Republic.

I’m not sure I ever apologized for poaching that family out of my District Leaders area. Sorry. We ended up baptizing this family which caused a chain of events to take place that all started with this family being baptized into the wrong branch.

The Jehovah’s Witness World Headquarters are in Downtown Brooklyn. The location is far less spectacular than Temple Square in SLC. It felt like an industrial block and wasn’t touristy at all. It looks like they sold it. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/31/realestate/jehovahs-witnesses-brooklyn-headquarters-for-sale.html
