NYNYS Mission November 1-8, 1996

Well, what happened?  A whole week has gone by already and I haven’t written. It’s now November 7th and things are going good.

We got Catalinia to come to church Sunday but she was pissed about it, and hated it, and wouldn’t listen to us, or talk to us.  Then she said, I’m leaving and you can’t make me stay… and she left.  It was not cool.  Then I saw her a few days later and she was way sick.  Oh well.

Then Monday, at Zone Conference they started a new thing called baptismal meetings where we do a street sweep to bring people back to the church to be baptized. Cool. [We had a debate about the] NYNYS challenging and testifying missionary.  […]

Tuesday night I went with [Elder] after a street sweep and we went to McDonald’s.  Later we were fed 3 meals between 7 and 9 PM.  Ahhhhh!  We were so full when we got to Hermana Tlatenchi’s she fed us Mondongo she knew we were full then we went down to her cousin to teach her and her husband and they fed us again. A member was with us she just laughed.  It was way funny anyhow.

November 6, 1996 (Wedensday)

We went down to Cony Island to play frisbee football.  We thought the [Sister Missionaries] would play but they didn’t like it so we played [a version of tag].  Yes, we looked like [explitive] playing tag right next to a big school, 2 busy roads, and a project complex.  Crazy all to please the [Sister Missionaries].  That’s OK. Then we tried to drag everyone there to the church.

We left the house of the Chivey family after the husband said he couldn’t go, so as we got down the road I felt funny and prayed and thought we should go back. So we did. His wife had gotten out of the shower in the few minutes while we were gone and we talked to them both and they still wouldn’t come. Oh well, we got a cita [appointment] for tomorrow.

November 8, 1996 (Friday)

We saw the snake eat today. Wow, he eats so fast, and a lot.  A lot of mice.  I thought that it was cool.  Then we went to a baptism meeting in Midwood where we walked around and around trying to work everyone to come to the church but only ended up bashing with a lot of people.  Wow, I was pissed.  I didn’t want to talk to anyone else. I felt I had lost the spirit and no good was going to come of the night.  Our time was up so we started back to the church.  I still felt I couldn’t give up. I still believed we could find someone even though all my faith was shattered.  I still had a particle of faith. As we walked back to the church I saw a girl walking on the other side of the road.  She was way cool. I had to work with her to let us come over.  She didn’t want us to because her home was a wreck.  So she went with us and I taught her the whole way to the church. Wow, I haven’t felt the spirit that strong in a long time.  So strong.  She told me she had never been baptized.  She was only blessed as a child.  Wow, she was so meek and so humble and so willing to repent and lay it all aside, wow, I was moved.  Her name was Roseann Cathereen Kydd from St Vincent, she’s Indian too. […] I had to walk back we got there it just gave me time to teach a fourth discussion.   We put her in with the AP.  He took over an hour to interview her.  It was so long. I was dying, but he did good.  She got baptized.  We baptized her  My soul was full.
