We played frisbee football in the park [Sunset Park]. It was pretty cool. We had a nice view of Manhattan. […] The two English companionships in my house weren’t working and each had greenies. So, now the greenies are always on splits with us, so the two greenies can be trained correctly. So they went on splits with us tonight. It’s cool. We get to double-work the area. […]
I felt like I should fearless a girl last night and I chased her down across the road and stuff. I found out she was cool… […] her name was Lisa. She’s like, ya I’ll listen. Oh, I’m so embarrassed. So she pulls a beer out of her bag and says “I’m embarrassed you’re going to talk about God to me and I’m drinking a beer.” […]

Well, we went on splits with the English greenies today. Their comps bailed on them. Wouldn’t do anything with them. They went one whole week having only left the house to go get pizza. I’m getting the feeling we’re gonna be together for a while.

Well, after Zone Meeting and an aggressive game of war ball, I found out the greenies are ours again. Oh well, all good for working our area.[…] Things are a little off balance. It’s being tuff. […] It’s crazy, one of the elders that is training is going home at the end of the month and he had a hard time working from day one.

Well, we had a gnarly street meeting today. Lots of fearlesses. It was way cool. Oh ya, and of course greenie splits. We just figured we would call them splits for now and maybe later our new comps? It depends. Boy, things just aren’t going as good as planned. I wish they would go better. We have nobody solid and can’t find anyone solid. […] We got the first egg of the season today. [Elder] got hit in the leg. Opps. I got a little piece in the face. It was funny, [Elder AP] asked the greenies when was the last time you saw your companions? “They sleep at your house ya?” I said, “We’re training them now.”
October 13, 1996 (Sunday)
Sunday was cool. We had no gators and so I took off to find one and went by Yolanda’s. I felt the spirit on that one. It was good. They are going to come to church. The next Sunday. Oh well, all is good. The day was nice though. And [Greenie’s] fearless showed up at church. Wants to get baptized. But smokes and drinks coffee. But we can work that out. I guess it’s all about greenie power and faith. A miracle somebody showed up on their own, an old handicapped lady.
October 14, 1996, Monday
What a day it was. Another mission conference. That’s like 4 since July. It was all good. Crazy. One hour train ride each way. The conference was about hitting 630 baptisms. For now, we’ll need a lot of faith but it was not impossible […]
Well on the way back we were making a routine transfer on the train when a wailing voice came out of nowhere “There is only one book that is the word of God” and so on… We’re like “Oh brother.” We kept quiet. I was impressed. “The Mormon Church is wrong.” he continued. Oh well. He followed us on the train but beforehand he said. “Some are Muslims, Some Buddhists Some Mormongs.” Then someone added, “Some crazy Christians” I chuckled. Anyhow to make it short, it lasted the whole way home. As we got off, he hung out the door yelling at us. But two missionaries stayed on and one was behind him as we walked by. I looked out the corner of my eye to see this man come flying out of the train with a little help of the “laying on of hands” by [Elder]. It was so funny. I later heard there was a round of applause, high fives, and cheers by those still on the train. And oh, someone said, “They must not be the true church either.” Oh well, it was sure funny anyhow. The doors closed as he went out.
