NYNYS Mission August 25 to September 1, 1996

NYNYS Mission Journal. Sex and Abortion are plagues in New York City. From the number of people who live out of wedlock, to the number who have illegitimate children, to those who have lots of illegitimate children with lots of different people, to those who abort all their pregnancies. I talked to so many women that had abortions. Most I dealt with were unable to get baptized. I haven’t gotten to it yet, but the worst I was saw was a mother and two daughters who we were going to baptize, then we found out that between the three of them, if I remember right, they had 20-30 abortions. It’s hard to imagine.

[…] We had no investigators at church but both of our non-members this month were there. […] We ended up getting out of church and let the spirit direct, we ended up going right where I had seen when I prayed. […] My companion had to use the restroom, so we went to visit a family […] That led us to an inactive family. Upon leaving there, we bumped into another inactive family who were visiting their inactive mother that lived there. This mother of theirs was going in tomorrow for surgery for a lot of kidney stones. We asked if she wanted a blessing. It was already way passed time to be home. […] We gave her a blessing then on the way home we met another inactive member. […]

[…] One of the things that happened was that we were walking along with the English Elders and our Zone Leader said, “Hay Priddis, Go talk to that lady she wants to talk to you.” So, I went back, and it was a lady who had just moved here from New Jersey and her kids just came up from her country. She’s a member but they are not. […] A lady we taught the other night, we stopped by her house, and she told us, “Ya I read. I prayed and I know it is true”. I was like Ya! (Inside). […]

Boy we went to Manhattan today. It was cool. I hung out with Gisela, Elder and Elder. It was good. We ate at the Hard Rock Cafe. I thought it divine intervention when we sand next to a Gold Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Record. […] We went to Central Park, Virgin Records, and walked around. They think I walk fast. […]

Rosaria committed to be baptized on Sunday. […] Bushwick is up to 56. Wow, and we thought 39 was high. […] I had all day Deja-vu again. It felt like it was all-day flashbacks, weird. I felt weird all day because of it. Kinda like the 2 days straight in Jamaca.

August 30, 1996 (Friday)
We had a special Missionary Broadcast today which was great. Then later today Chirs kinda committed to get baptized. Then the two kids of the inactive member didn’t look too good and that was all right though, I think they’ll still come through. God will help them. We got fed twice. Once at 7:30 PM then again at about 10:00 PM at the house of the inactive member Rose. I was so full. I thought I would die, and puke. I still feel weird from the Deja-Vuu’s yesterday.

[…] We taught Rosalina all the other 4 charlas (discussions) so she could get baptized. I was thinking about that. I think the last time I did that was in Long Island, weird. […]

September 1, 1996 (Sunday)
Rosalina got Baptized today. We were so good. The Branch met her and everything. […] In her interview she learned it’s wrong to have abortions. She went into a room for like half an hour, or more was repenting, crying. She going to be so good. I was touched by her sincerity in all she did to try to change. Wow, she’s good. She will help lead the church in the future. The woman of the church. The guy we taught in the park showed up too.
