I was at work yesterday. My boss, Davis and I were talking to co-worker about a new position they were filling. David shared a quote from I had not hear before “Slow is Smooth and Smooth is Fast”. I understand the principle, but I really enjoyed how it explained it in terms of this individual learning their new position. As pondered it more, the phase resonated with many things I knew to be true.
The term appears to originate from the US Special Operations community. “Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.” Here is an explanation from a US Navy Seal.
There is a scripture found in Alma 37:6-7
6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.
7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.
Isn’t this the same principle? Does not God act in the same way. Through small and simple means. Through small and simple means are great things brought to pass.
Slow is smooth. Take your time to learn it. Take your time to master it. Take your time to do it right. Take the right steps the first time. This is true in whatever the situation is.
In the end your efforts will look fast to others. Your efforts will be longer, stronger, more firm, better established, and have longer lasting effect, than had you rushed.
Same with establishing a house of order and faith. By small and simple means, by small acts, by small actions, by small efforts, the gospel is established and grows.
I love that.
