REVIEW – Pastor Jeff Reads 3rd Nephi – Part 2

I commend Pastor Jeff for sincerely reading this.

I also commend Greg Matson for assisting Pastor Jeff.

There are three things I would like to point out.

#1 – 3rd Nephi 11 – So much of what Pastor Jeff focuses on is baptism related. This chapter is the foundation of baptism within the LDS Church. I just wish it was covered better.

#2 – There was a connection Pastor Jeff made at the [11:45] mark where he found the scriptural foundation for not focusing on the resurrection and not the cross.

He realized that in the bible the phrasing was pre-crucifixion and in the book of Mormon it was post-resurrection. And they were both phrased differently:

3 Nephi 18:7 And this shall ye do in remembrance of my body, which I have shown unto you. And it shall be a testimony unto the Father that ye do always remember me. And if ye do always remember me ye shall have my Spirit to be with you.

Jesus Christ says, “in remembrance of my body, which I have shown to you.” In the bible he says in Luke: “This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.” In Mark he said: “Take, eat: this is my body.” And in Matthew he said: “Take, eat; this is my body.”

#3 – The last thing I wanted to talk about was the covenant path and degrees of Glory. This starts at about [16:20]. They kept going back and forth about what salvation looks like after earth life. It was a great opportunity for Greg to emphasis the differences on what is God.

Jeff kept emphasizing heaven was living in the presence of God. Greg kept doing the same but not drawing the distinction between living in the presence of Jesus Christ and living in the presence of God the Father. This could have been intentional. It could also be that they had that conversation, but it was not released in the video.

D&C 76;81-86 – Telestial

D&C 76:71-80,87 – Terrestrial

D&C 76:50-70, 92-119 – Celestial

The key is D&C 76;77 These are they who receive of the presence of the Son, but not of the fulness of the Father. The other faiths believe that Jesus Christ and God the Father are the same being. There is no difference. They strive for the presence of the Son, but not that of the Father. The thing I always said as a missionary is that they will get what they strived for. Eternal Glory in the presence of the Son. It is also the very thing Pastor Jeff always explains. But we strive for something more. It was explained so eloquently by Elder Oaks in his last General Conference address.
