NYNYS Mission June 17-22, 1996

So, a few things. I didn’t write about it, but I remember the baptism at Rockaway Beach. It was the only baptism I went to at the beach. I remember there being a dozen missionaries there and the beach was loaded with hundreds of people if not more, all in their swimming attire. After the person was baptized, everyone on the beach started clapping. Yes, we did have pagers. I had one. I thought I was cool beans.

Mission conference was excellent. Very. That’s about all I can say. President Bailey rocked us with a talk about how it’s an honor to be called a Mormon. It truly is.

But we saw a baptism in the ocean on Rockaway Beach. It’s New York you just do it. Nobody really cares. [Elder] coming in caught a wave to body surf in. It was a nice time down there. Then we had the same long ride back. The mission van was like the Jamaican Dollar vans, kinda funny. […]

First of all, we went to a picnic. We were in charge of the games. We had so much fun. The games were a blast. The members loved them. So, we got back but first all the big story was the bus. We had to wait an hour for the bus each way. Then we were going out to see old man Withers. I was praying and couldn’t even say his name, the only name that would come out of my mouth was Fransisco. I even tried not to say his name but it still came out, so after Antero’s, we rode up on bikes to Francisco’s. He was sitting out on someone’s stoop. So, we talked and his mom and grandma saw. I felt we were inspired to do it then it rained on us on the way back a bunch. Oh well, and we got home late. To top off the day it was my mail day. […]
